The Ultimate Gaming Experience

The video game industry is experiencing a period of rapid growth – it has recently overtaken the music industry in the US – that will take the global market from $42 billion in 2007 to an estimated $68 billion in 2012 (source: PricewaterhouseCooper’s Global Entertainment and Media Outlook 2007-2012.) This growth is driven by the continued introduction of technologically advanced home game consoles and innovative software titles including casual and fitness games which expand the gaming experience to new demographic groups such as older adults, women and families.

Video game developers, home console manufacturers and arcade solution providers are looking for new ways to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive landscape, while gamers are demanding sophisticated scenarios that provide more intuitive gameplay experiences. Above all, gamers want to have fun! Offering fully immersive, transparent (marker-less) and intuitive user experiences, with a single, low-cost camera, represents a fantastic opportunity for developers and publishers to establish a leadership position in next generation action, casual, sports and fitness video game markets. The commercial availability of 3D depth sensing cameras now makes this revolution possible.

Softkinetic’s solution, the patent pending iisu™ middleware platform, offers a rich set of interfaces and predefined gesture-based patterns that video game and content developers can use to create fun and exciting gameplay experiences.

EA Sports
In collaboration with EA SPORTS R&D team in Vancouver Softkinetic has created two sports related full body video game prototypes. One let’s you shoot hoops in a basketball game and another one let’s you play golf simply by make a swing like in the real world.

George Borshukov, Director of Creative R&D, EA SPORTS™ said about the cooperation: “We continually search for new ways to engage wider audience in gameplay through innovation. By using Softkinetic’s 3D gesture technology, we can remove the controller and allow the user to play a game with their own body movements. This is just one step towards a new kind of full-body gameplay which will have an important role in the future of interactive entertainment.”
